About The Founder

MMS Pty Ltd was founded in 1984 with Malcolm Davey as it's principal to provide managment services.

Accountancy was his chosen profession. His studies in the late 1960' and early 1970's included a year of computer studies, and an experimental unit of higher level math (difficult and time consuming at the time, now common in computer modelling). Post graduate studies followed in Management Accounting. Professional employment included manufacturing, chartered accounting firms, internal audit, systems/software development and consulting both in Australia and overseas. Spray painting, truck driving, concrete pumps, barman, Army Reservist and until recently sheepstation mustering and yard work, were 'theraputic' insights. Although his musical skill were limited he is a life member of K&N Brass.

The advent of the 'personal computer' saw a commercial uptake of systems and computing outside the 'mainframe' paradigm. Malcolm started moving from just the design of management systems to engaging in programming as well. With mainframes generally you had staff to perform various operation. The 'PC' paradigm could not afford such luxury. It was now easier and more efficient to write the programs personally rather than contract out the elements.

One thing learned in the early stages. If someone claimed 'to know all about computers' it was obvious that they did not know enough to know what they did not know. Technology advances since the mid 1980's have meant that this is more so than ever today. Many of us have forgotten more than we can remember, and are constantly learning just to keep in touch with selected elements.

In the past, you had to be efficient with your coding, or it did not run. The more graphics, the slower the performance. Systems developed by Malcolm focused on functionality and performance, and not on how pretty they looked. His forte was finding innovative ways to achieve objectives. This has extended to the 'Descendantsee' project.

Malcolm, now in his senior years, acknowledges he is probably a 'Dinosaur', although 'Trendies' claimed that as early as 1990. It is hoped that younger generations ( with newer and different skill sets) will take up the mantle and get involved and enhance the 'descendantsee' project.
